A
jacket is very convenient clothes, in a modern lexicon quite often
synonym to "coat". It is possible to wear it at any age.
Especially it refers to denim jackets.
The jacket history goes back to time of the European knights who wore the
clothes well fitting a body under armor. The jacket can be sewed or knitted,
of different lengths, but actually must have sleeves. A jacket is a short
top men's wear of 14-16 centuries. Originally the jacket was put on vamps.
It had characteristic secular sleeves with an ornament in the form of a
fringe along the edges. The jacket is varying over time, turning into a
short, tight one with a big cut. Jacket-cardigan (named for the count Dzh.
T.Kardigan) received a special popularity - without a collar, with a high
fastener and pockets. There was a very short jacket, which was fashionable
during 1930-years. Its figured cuffs and a belt were made of a contrast
fabric.
In 1930-1940th years there are jackets from dense fabrics (gabardine, cheviot,
boston) which are worn complete with dresses from fine fabrics (chiffon,
gauze, cambric, chintz). Such clothes were popular in those times.
Now the jacket is made with the expanded and straightened line of the shoulders,
more often fitted. The sleeve can be set-in, and magyar, and a raglan.
The collar is of the most different form or can be absent. Fabrics are
dense, must hold the form. There are different variants of a modern jacket.
Denim fabric is discussed later. However it is very popular among kids.
The jacket-spenser had become fashionable about 200 years ago and was obliged
by the name to lord Spenser who had shorted floors of a jacket. It is very
short jacket, its silhouette can be given a close fit or straight lines.
A fabric is more often light.
The jacket-trenchkot flows from a coat-trenchkot. Only its length is, of
course, shorter. It is sewn from a dense fabric. It has usually the storm
flap, slim pockets, epaulets - all with a stitch. Such jacket is worn with
a belt which can be stretched as self-belt. The tangerine-jacket is of
a direct silhouette with wide enough and too direct sleeves, without a
collar or with a small pole, a fastener on buttons and the overhanging
loops located, as a rule, dissymetrically, top corner of the right shelf
is cut off on a diagonal.
The jacket knitted is a jacket on a fastener from top to bottom. It can
have the form of the jacket- cardigan, reminds the jacket-spenser, resembles
a blouson or a kirtle. All other knitted things with a fastener not to
a bottom or without it and with sleeves are called as a jumper.
